Forest School
An area of the school field was set aside in April 2014 to enable it to be developed into a Forest School site. Willow was planted to act as the boundary of the site. Different areas of the site were added which included a muddy patch for digging and looking for worms and other mini beasts, a camp fire circle for small fires to cook marshmallows over, balancing beams to practice walking along, climbing over and under, also a rope swing which is available on each Forest School session. Two newly created mini beast hotels were added to natural structures to attract more mini beasts and insects to the site.
A very wet and cold day at Forest School, we enjoyed spending time splashing about in the puddles. We all decided that the field had bigger puddles! Mustafa and Miss White had a mini competition to see who could make the biggest splash! Miss White won with a great big splash.

During the Winter term we have been making bird feeders using seeds, fat, apple and raisins to help attract more birds to the site and help feed the birds over the difficult months. This helps us out during our RSPB bird watch, we observed Pied Wagtail's, Jackdaws, Crows, Blue tits, Starlings and heard Robins singing to each other. During the session Majid and Isaac saw two Herring gulls and a Red Kite have a fight over head, until the Herring gulls were successful in chasing off the Red Kite . Majid stated that he could see their talons and it amazing to see them fight with each other. We built our own Pirate Ship in Forest School, the children designed their Ship with an hold for the treasure. They even made Miss White walk the plank! This linked into their Literacy topic of Pirates. Safiya stated that she had found the treasure with " X" marks the spot! Lots of fun was had by all. We have been learning about hedgehogs, exploring and hunting around the site for numbered hedgehogs too. We managed to make a Harry the Hedgehog number line up to 10. Leah & Chloe enjoyed finding Maple leaves around the site and completing their own Harry The Hedgehog pictures. The Nursery children and staff helped to spruce up the Silver Birch tree with Christmas Baubles creating our own Christmas tree. We all enjoyed making our own smores over the fire. They tasted so yummy! Nursery class having fun, setting up their own set of stairs and jumping off them in Forest School. During term one we have spend time, exploring all areas of the site. We have experimented building different sizes and types of dens and supporting each other with a helping hand when required.
We have been busy exploring the different Autumnal colours of the Maple Tree over this Autumn term. The children have enjoyed observing the Maple seeds spinning down to the ground, playing in amongst the leaves and seeing who can be the best at being camouflaged in the leaves. Ayra stated" that Mrs White hides the best. "
We have made our own stick man puppets and dressed them with Maple leaves. Remy and Martha showed their puppets around the site including them having ago on the rope swing. We are helping to feed the birds over Winter by making bird feeders using vegetable fat and bird seeds.
