Forest School
An area of the school field was set aside in April 2014 to enable it to be developed into a Forest School site. Willow was planted to act as the boundary of the site. Different areas of the site were added which included a muddy patch for digging and looking for worms and other mini beasts, a camp fire circle for small fires to cook marshmallows over, balancing beams to practice walking along, climbing over and under, also a rope swing which is available on each Forest School session. Two newly created mini beast hotels were added to natural structures to attract more mini beasts and insects to the site.
Today we went for a spring walk around the School site, we found Snow Drops, Daffodils and a few buds starting to grow on the trees. We also found worms in the ground and the last time this happened was in late Autumn.

Today we toasted marshmallows over a fire and also had an egg hunt for mini eggs which had a letter on the back of them to spell out a word. Some of the eggs took a bit of finding as they were hidden under logs or tied up high on bushes etc. The marshmallows were a big hit with all of the children and many of them explained at the end of the session that it was the best part and the best forest school EVER! In the session today we made bird seed cakes to attract more birds onto the Forest School site. We investigated which type of seeds different birds are attracted too. The morning group made bird seed cakes using lard and bird seed adding a net to contain the fat ball. The afternoon group used cheerios on string as an experiment to see which birds would be attracted to it. Layla said "The fat balls felt really sticky." Gabi explained "she felt happy to be feeding the birds." |
