During one session we had a fire in which the children were able to toast their own marsh mallow or twist bread, which they really enjoyed doing.
Forest School
An area of the school field was set aside in April 2014 to enable it to be developed into a Forest School site. Willow was planted to act as the boundary of the site. Different areas of the site were added which included a muddy patch for digging and looking for worms and other mini beasts, a camp fire circle for small fires to cook marshmallows over, balancing beams to practice walking along, climbing over and under, also a rope swing which is available on each Forest School session. Two newly created mini beast hotels were added to natural structures to attract more mini beasts and insects to the site.
During their time in Forest School the children have been learning how to use a flint and stricker to create a spark that lights the cotton wool. After much practise the children are able to do this sucessfully and understand the safety rules around doing this activity. During one session we had a fire in which the children were able to toast their own marsh mallow or twist bread, which they really enjoyed doing.
